Univision Receives Award for DTV Transition Awareness Program

June 23, 2008

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Education Association has awarded Univision Communications with a Service to America award for its work to inform the public about the transition to digital television which will take place in February 2009.

Univision Educates Hispanic Community about DTV Transition

Univision was selected for the award because it was the first media company to launch an original, comprehensive national public service campaign designed to educate and prepare the Hispanic community for the transition to digital television. Launched on October 1, 2007, this national multi-platform public service campaign includes public service announcements featuring some of Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión's most popular hosts, a Web presence, 30-minute television specials, local newscasts, and local outreach efforts.

The DTV awareness campaign is designed to educate the network's viewers about the differences between the current analog television system and the digital television signals.

Hispanic Community Expected to be Greatly Impacted by DTV

Following studies which identified the Hispanic community in the U.S. and Puerto Rico as one which will be greatly impacted by the switch to digital television next year, Univision launched its viewer awareness program titled "A New Era: Digital Television." The campaign is credited with being a major source of information about the digital transition to Hispanics.
